Maternal Guidance Group Sister Maria Angélica

The Institution neighborhood community has several characteristics, but the existence of people lacking material and cultural resources is notorious. The presence of pregnant adolescents is significant in the groups, which increases the importance of transmitting knowledge about pregnancy and childbirth due to the fact that it is a vulnerable and at risk group. People that are interested in the guidelines also take part, as well as the children of the pregnant women. Because it is a Spiritist Center, the duty to awaken hearts to understanding, stimulating the potential and the dignity existing in each human being, giving them back their self-esteem, justifies the existence of this kind of project.  

This project is aimed for pregnant women of the assisted communities, from any age range, up to 05 (five) months of gestation, providing them with educational lectures given by health and social professionals, who use audio visual resources, including guidance on care with the newborn and prenatal care. During the activities they receive refreshments and periodic distribution of layette.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE

Maternal Guidance Group Sister Maria Angélica aims to give health orientation for pregnant women and their babies.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

• Clarify doubts about the period of gestation, delivery and postpartum;
• Encourage pregnant women to perform prenatal care;
• Raise awareness about the importance of breast-feeding, the need for their own body care, the baby's body care and the importance of the affective bonds between mother and children.

Distribution of Layette

The distribution of layette is intended to meet the need for clothing for the children of needy mothers. This action guarantees a basic right of the human being, to have what to wear, especially at this stage, when the newborn needs comfortable and clean clothes. It arouses satisfaction and security for the mother who cannot afford clothes for her child. It also brings dignity to a new citizen coming into the world.

Specific Objectives

1. Ensure that newborns are provided with a layette for a healthy birth;
2. Develop a work of awareness of society towards other people;
3. Promote the recycling of baby clothes that can be used for another child;
4. Provide comfort and well-being to families. 

This Group is in charge of the donations of the newborns layette to the needy mothers, at the end of the course. The kits are offered with the following items:
